FLY FISHING DOJO is the newest blogsite by Sensei John Szmitkowski, a Roku-Dan (6^th Degree Black Belt) in Goshin-Do Karate-Do. In 1971, at the age of ten years old, Sensei John started two activities that would remain with him to this date, studying the art of Karate and Fly-fishing. There are many articles, books, magazines, DVD movies, websites and blogs dedicated to exploring fly-fishing. Sensei John’s blog, Fly Fishing Dojo, is unique in that it explores the aspect of fly fishing he calls “Fly-fishing Do” (pronounced “Doe”) or the Way of Fly-fishing. The word “Dojo” translates as “Way-Place”, or Place To Learn The Way., thus the name FLY-FISHING DOJO. Sensei combines his love for martial arts technique, procedures, protocol and states of mind with the technical aspects and innate pleasures of fly-fishing. The result is a heretofore unknown perspective on fly-fishing that goes above and beyond an exploration of the mere technique or spirit of fly-fishing – the result is to unlock the Way or Path of Fly-fishing as a lifetime pursuit. THE WAY OF FLY-FISHING:

Articles submitted under this category will explore the means by which Fly-fishing can be utilized as a way or path to enhance your overall life experience. By understanding the concept of Fly-Fishing-Do (pronounced “Doe”) or Way Of Fly-fishing, you will begin to have a greater appreciation for not only fly-fishing, but also the natural environment. Such an appreciation will ultimately lead to an enhanced appreciation for life itself. All to be learned and understood through the mechanism of the “simple” act of Fly-fishing.

FLY-FISH LIKE A KARATE MASTER:

These articles are not merely members of the plethora of “How To” articles that can be found in any library or internet search. In this unique Blog, Sensei John draws upon his over three decades of practicing Karate-Do and exploring the joy of fly fishing to produce an analysis of fly fishing from a martial perspective. In these submissions, Sensei John unlocks physical secrets of achieving a level of performance known only to martial artists. Sensei John also discloses his unique understanding of martial states of mind. These states of mind not only preparing one to fly-fish more effectively, but also allow one to be receptive to the rapture of the natural environment.

Every one likes to read of each others fly-fishing adventures. These articles are not restatements of the “I was on this water, used this fly and caught this fish” genre. Sensei John draws upon his unique perspective to share some memorable fishing adventures from a distinctive perspective.
